Celine Atkinson, MS

Celine is a second year PhD student in the McLean lab. She graduated from the University of South Florida in 2018 with her Bachelor of Science in microbiology and a minor in American Sign Language. Additionally, she graduated from the same institution in 2023 with her MS in Biology. In her master’s program, Celine studied microbial interactions in the sea squirt gut microbiome, particularly focusing on bacterial strain-level variation and bacteriophage dynamics. During her doctoral studies, she will be leading efforts to develop single-cell prokaryotic approaches to study cell-cell interactions in the human microbiome on a R21 grant with the Kuchina lab at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB). In her free time, she enjoys cooking and eating!
